Peshmerga Minister Reaffirms US-KRG Military Ties, Calls for Continued Coalition Support

Preview: "The KRG and the U.S. reaffirmed their cooperation, as the Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga Minister met with Iraq’s President and U.S. officials in Baghdad to push for delayed salary payments, citing the “difficult financial situation” and urging the swift implementation of the Erbil-Baghdad agreement."

The KRG’s Peshmerga Minister, Shakeh Sharif, reaffirmed strong U.S.–KRG military cooperation and called for continued support from the U.S.-led coalition, highlighting the importance of sustained weapons, training, and logistical assistance in countering ISIS threats and enhancing regional security. He emphasized that this deepening partnership is essential for ongoing Peshmerga reform and professionalization under the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs—efforts that align with previous U.S. and German contributions aimed at unifying the force and boosting operational readiness, as detailed in earlier coverage by Kurdistan24 and Rudaw.
