Kurdistan VP: Issues Between Erbil and Baghdad Must Be Resolved Through Dialogue

Preview: "The meeting covered recent developments in Iraq and the wider region, with a particular focus on the reform and unification of the Peshmerga forces, and ongoing efforts to resolve outstanding disputes between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the federal government in Baghdad. Both sides stressed the importance of resolving these issues through dialogue and mutual understanding, in line with the Iraqi Constitution."

This meeting highlights the importance of deepening diplomatic ties between the United States and the Kurdistan Region, especially through direct engagement on governance, security, and economic stability. The Vice President’s emphasis on resolving disputes with Baghdad through constitutional dialogue aligns with the AKC’s ongoing advocacy for peaceful federal–regional relations based on mutual respect and legal frameworks.

Additionally, the discussion’s focus on continued cooperation in the fight against ISIS underscores the critical role of coalition-backed security coordination and the ongoing need for Peshmerga support and reform.

Act now to help ensure long-term regional stability and Kurdish self-determination.
